Things to check off your list in the midst of running your fabulous life-giving business.
Go for a walk, if it is not too dark.
Get some fresh air, try to smile.
Say something kind
To a safe-looking stranger, if one happens by.
Always exercise your heart’s knowing.
You might as well attempt something real
Along this path:
Not long ago I had a nose-down, wildly productive week in my business. Writing, talking, meeting, brainstorming, number crunching, thinking (always), finessing, dreaming… I even managed to get personal to-do’s checked off my list, like replacing the muffler and tires on my car. (Amazing!) I felt great having accomplished everything on my mental list, plus some.
Until I hit the weekend depleted and running on empty, despite my good work and getting plenty of sleep. That night I read the above poem by Hafiz, and it suddenly occurred to me, the one thing I had forgotten to do:
I forgot about the life part.
Business is not the stuff of life. Life is the stuff of life. Business, and work — even good work you enjoy — is only part of the whole.
Get some fresh air. Say something kind. Reach out to a friend, or a play a game with your kids. And singing a ribald song to your plants?? How fun does that sound!
So many options to take a spare minute, and… enjoy.
Question: What’s on your list of spare-moment enjoyments?
Option: Do one right now 🙂
